THIS IS OUR Mission

THIS IS OUR Mission

Shay’s Vision aims to inspire visually impaired children and teens to be physically active and productive members of their community through tandem biking, improving the overall health and well-being of these individuals. Shay’s Vision will provide these young people the opportunity to experience the freedom and excitement that comes with riding a bicycle.

Statistics show that children with visual impairments have lower levels of health related physical fitness compared to their peers. Shay's Vision strengthens each individual's self-esteem and confidence through recreational and social activity. These communal necessities are often overlooked in the educational and home environment.

Shay's vision encourages the following: setting and meeting goals, mentoring, teamwork, fundraising, and especially providing the opportunity to feel the rush and excitement of cycling with a group of people no different from themselves.

Shay's Vision has confidence that through cycling, these children and teens will return home and be more independent and confident in their abilities. In addition to cycling, Shay's Vision will inspire these young people to go out and become involved in their communities. Through their community involvement they s will educate others about kids with visual impairments, open up in social situations, and become a special niche that society can relate to on many levels.

Shay is a young lady born with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia (ONH).  She is an avid cyclist who loves being independent and enjoying the outdoors.  As a kid Shay attended Camp Abilities Tucson, a sports camp for blind and visually impaired kids.  This is where Shay had her first experience on a tandem bike and her life was forever changed. Since then she has made it her mission to enable other kids with visual impairments like herself the opportunity to be more active through cycling.  Shay’s dream is to have more visually impaired kids on bikes enjoying the freedom and excitement she feels while cycling.

While the success of the mission is extremely satisfying, it cannot happen without the financial support of many individual donors and organizations. Thanks so much to all our sponsors who make Shay's Vision possible.
